Forest Disaster and Environmental Research Department

Forest Disaster and Environmental Research Department aims to assess climate change impact on forest ecosystems, develop adaptation technology to climate change, conserve biodiversity, manage Baekdudaegan Mountain Range , manage urban forests and Maeulsoop, predict and prevent forest disasters.

Forest Disaster Prediction and Analysis Division

Division Overview

We ensure the stable operation and management of forest disaster information systems while systematically establishing and managing diverse disaster-related datasets to enhance the accuracy of situational awareness. In addition, it provides technical support for disaster monitoring and field response based on forest disaster big data.

Forest Disaster Prediction and Response

We conduct research to predict and analyze the likelihood and potential magnitude of forest disasters in advance, while supporting early detection, warning and alert issuance, and decision-making processes. To minimize damage and enhance preparedness, it produces forest disaster outlook information and develops advanced intelligent forecasting and early warning systems.

Forest Disaster Risk Assessment

We conduct research to scientifically assess forest disaster risks usingbig data, and multi-sensor imagery, and to develop and update spatially- based risk maps. To enhance the rationality and efficiency of policy formulation and field response operations, we advance forest disaster risk assessment models and decision-support systems.
