The Global Forestry Division aims to be a leading forestry sector think tank in the era of globalization. Our mission is to strengthen international forestry cooperation and the forestry cooperation between the two Koreas as well as to establish global forestry development strategies. The division consists of three core research teams that focus on International Cooperation Research, Global Forest Resources and Trade Research, and Inter-Korean Forest Research, respectively. The International Cooperation Research team provides a variety of information to the Government of the Republic of Korea for bilateral and multilateral forestry cooperation through developing responsive strategies for international conventions and meetings based upon a deep understanding of international forestry affairs. The Global Forest Resources and Trade Research team conducts research on the building of databases for global forest resource development and investment, the establishment of trade negotiation impact assessments and of domestic and foreign responsive strategies, and forest products trade policies. The Inter-Korean Forest Research team makes efforts to facilitate effective forestry cooperation between the two Koreas. Its research includes the collection and analysis of North Korean forestry databases using satellite images, and studies on trends in North Korean forestry policies as well as North Korean forest restoration strategies for policy support of the two Koreas’ forestry cooperation.
