Forest Genetic Resources Division aims to collect, evaluate, conserve and manage rare and endangered species and useful forest genetic resources. We focus on developing DNA markers, assessing genetic diversity, developing sampling strategies for conservation, determining effective population size, characterizing optimal environmental condition and physiological characteristics of the susceptible species against climate change, etc. The goals of the Division are increasing genetic diversity in protected areas for forest genetic resources, expanding in situ conservation forests, establishing ex situ conservation plantations, establishing a seed bank, evaluating viability of the stored seeds, and building a digital database of forest genetic resources. Moreover, we perform research on restoration of habitats for the rare and endangered tree genetic resources-vulnerable to climate and environmental changes.
