The Korea Forest Service (KFS) established a forest partnership with the Department of Natural Resources of Canada (NRCan). On the significant occasion of the Korea-Canada Summit between President Park Geun-hye and Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper on September 22 in Ottawa, the MOU on forest cooperation was signed by KFS Minister SHIN Won Sop and NRCan Minster Greg Rickford in the presence of the two leaders.

Formerly, a bilateral meeting between KFS and NRCan took place on September 19 at NRCan. Both Ministers shared their insights on feasible forest cooperation: ①forest carbon budget; ②landscape level approaches to natural resources management suggested by the NRCan; and ①technology exchange on wood construction; ②the 6th International Wildland Fire Conference in Korea; ③joint research on wildland fire prevention; ④sharing experience in forest certification proposed by the KFS.

With this signing ceremony of the MOU on the special occasion of President Park's visit to Canada, KFS and NRCan has built up a milestone for sharing forest policies and researches and exchanging forest-human resources and technologies.
