The Korea Forest Service held the International Symposium on Northeast Asia Forest Forum to Combat Desertification and Dust and Sandstorm on June 14 at the Seoul Press Center. Key officers from China, Japan, Mongolia, and international organizations such as UNCCD and UNESCAP were present. The international symposium was held in commemoration of the International Year of Deserts and Desertiication.

The representatives from each country introduced their national level programs to combat desertification. The Korean side proposed to organize Northeast Asia Forest Network as a sub-regional initiative to combat desertification and dust and sandstorm.
